It's yard sale season at Ju Ju Beads! I just returned from a nice break with my family visiting the coast of Maine and am cleaning house at Ju Ju Beads. We are making a travel necklace to take on your summer vacation. I have been travelling with this setup for the last several years and it really simplifies my life on the road. Pick your choice of an organza or leather choker (so many colors to choose from!) and then select 3 different assorted bead combinations to create 3 interchangeable pendants to pack in your suitcase, one dressy, one funky, one sporty--you get the idea, all can switch off and on the same necklace. Yippee!!!!! It's my favorite time of year, hot and sunny and LONG days full of fun.

If you haven't been to Ju Ju Beads lately, we have so much in store for summer. I have been making EVERYTHING out of feathers lateley. Just bought a ring neck pheasant pelt, full of gorgeous feathers in all kinds of colors. Wait til you see the drippy, lightweight, elegant earrings that have come from this inspiring new material. Gorgeous Gemstones

Hooray! My last shipment from my Tucson buying trip arrived yesterday. This was sent snail mail since it was too valuable to pack in my suitcase and check with the airlines. Can't risk losing this! All incredible gemstones, briolettes, rondelles, gorgeous stones with incredible color and clarity. Best treat of all was a SPLURGE on vermeil chain with teeny, tiny faceted mixed gemstones on each individual chain link. It is breathtaking. Also, a new feature of the store is a pile of 16" strands, all natural stones that are only $7/strand! Great price, great selection. Tucson Bead Show News

Just got back from a whirlwind trip through Tucson's Bead Show last night and have piles and piles of new, gorgeous goodies.

Best of show find was PEARLS DRILLED WITH LARGE HOLES FOR LEATHER!!!!! FINALLY! Lots of beautiful colors, all 1.50 each or $24 for a strand. Also, a cool knotting gizmo to make hemp/leather/cord designs without using cones and caps to finish it off--super cool and makes it so easy and foolproof. Most beautiful peruvian opals I have ever seen--I mistook it for larimar from the Carribean. Only 10 strands of this-I bought everything they had. Special splurge is 14k gold chain with miniature semiprecious stones dangling every link-all mixed stones, so delicate-you'll want some too! All the other one-of-a-kind stuff you expect and more coming in the mail--my suitcase was full and I couldn't cram any more into it. What fun! See you soon.

Sailor's Valentines--an inspiration

I've returned from a much needed relaxing getaway to Sanibel, Florida and was so excited to return and share a wonderful, classic craft I admired while I was at the Sanibel Shell Museum. The Shell Museum is actually a fabulous institution dedicated to the science of mollusks and shells and is the only type of museum of it's kind in the world. Enjoy the attached photos of the Sailor's Valentine and the shell covered beach on Sanibel.

Sailor's Valentines were crafted by wives of sailors waiting for their loved ones to return home from the sea. Made entirely of delicate shells in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, sailor valentine craft is experiencing a revival in beach communities, especially in Sanibel which is the 3rd best shelling beach in the world. I have never seen anything like this, and was completely enthralled with the designs and can hardly wait to make one with beads. It will make an enduring valentine for my honey.

If you've never heard of Sanibel, like me until now, Frontier Airlines flies there direct and it is a modest beach vacation full of midwestern folk, not a hoity toity, ritzy beach town. Very refreshing. Check it out for yourself and your family.

As most of you know, this is also the time of year I get organized for a BIG BUYING TRIP TO TUCSON. I leave on Super Bowl Sunday, wearing my Cheese Head (yipee!)--and maybe I get some special treatment along the way!

Christmas Parade

Happy Thanksgiving from Main Street USA!

Ju Ju Beads is all geared up for the "Silly Season" as we call it at our house--The next 5 weeks are crazy with my husband and I both in retail. Say prayer for us!!!

We are looking forward to a wonderful Thanksgiving next week which we will celebrate on friday--see how silly it is!! I love to cook and bake, so I am excited to spend a lot of the day in our kitchen that got remodeled over the summer. On the menu is a free-range turkey, smashed potatoes with roasted garlic, fresh asparagus with hollandaise, cranberry sauce from the can (per my daughter's request) and pie, pie, pie--We love pie for breakfast 365 days a year, so we can never make too much. I just made an apple pie not too long ago, so maybe something else is in order...pear and raspberry? pecan and walnut? old fashioned lemon cake pie? We'll see.

Fall Beading at JuJu's

Greetings!

Have you seen the latest edition of Stringing Magazine for September? If not, go find it NOW. This is the only thing you have to do today...it is FULL of exciting new projects, gorgeous pictures and tons of inspiration for fall beading. I can't say I have been a fan of Stringing lately, but this issue showcases their updated look, new format and even better instruction/tutorial section. Lucky for me, I was able to breeze through a copy at Louisville Library-who is carrying both Stringing and Bead & Button Magazine now for all of us to enjoy.

What's Hot (besides all of us and these 97 degree days--ha ha)
Everything for Fall has chain. Tons of mixed metal necklaces; chain mixed with beads; chain mixed with ribbon/textiles. I've gotten bit by the chain bug and now am carrying probably 5 times as much chain as I used to. We have gunmetal, copper, antique brass, silver and gold. All kinds of link varieties-ball, rolo, figaro, openlink, novelty-you get the picture. Prices are very inviting as these are not precious metals, most around $2.50 a foot. You can get creative and not go broke for a change!

Save the Date
Saturday October 2nd is a special evening in downtown Louisville, the last Arts Hub evening of 2010 before the snow flies. Ju Ju Beads will be showcasing a display of the latest porcelain bead designs inspired by Gustav Klimt's art work. All of you who are familiar with these collectible beads know what a treat you are in for. I will be displaying prints of Klimt's work along with the beads, so you can appreciate the source of the inspiration. Also that evening, Janice Larson, a local Louisville resident and gifted painter will be displaying her work. She paints beautiful local scenes that she also sells at Boulder Arts and Crafts Cooperative. This all takes place from 6-9pm.

Thanks to everyone who made it another successful summer for Ju Ju Beads. Business is still growing and the new location finally feels like home. As for classes, I am totally frustrated trying to encourage people to sign up for classes, so for a while I will not be organizing a set class schedule but instead will offer to meet with you for a private class to teach you whatever you want to learn. One hour sessions are $35/hour. If you want to schedule something, let's look at our calendars together. Thanks for your understanding. This has been a difficult decision for me to make...

The summer is rolling right along at Ju Ju Beads! Main Street in Old Town Louisville is alive with visitors strolling the new shops, restaurants and diversions. Our little town seems to be on every one's map, hooray!

Favorite summer projects from Ju Ju Beads have been lightweight necklaces--all strung on WAXED LINEN. If you haven't discovered the utter joy of working with this, come and experiment. Waxed linen is the new silk cord, minus the aggravation. Most of all, we love it because it doesn't knot itself while you're working! Waxed linen is THE stringing material used to copy all those rugged yet elegant necklaces and bracelets in the Sundance and Golden Bear catalogues. It comes in a 10 yard spool for $4.75.

The Summer Vacation Charm Bracelet has been another favorite project for all ages. One Day Trunk Show June 5th

Thanks to all who got in on the trunk show from Nirvana Beads of New York. It was a great success and has spurred me on to setting up a one day trunk show with a regular stone supplier I do business with out of California as a special event on June 5th. This is a one-day event only. There will be all kinds of natural stone, both semi-precious and gem quality, lots of interesting shapes and one of a kind pieces. Plus Ju Ju Beads will be having a sidewalk sale of odds n ends that day. All under the big umbrella out on the front lawn.

Summer is just getting underway in downtown Louisville. If you haven’t been around lately, you will not recognize Main Street…there have been some serious face lifts done on 3 buildings that are home to new restaurants— The Empire, Zucca and The Alley Cat all have beautiful new windows/garage doors that open onto Main for outdoor dining. So cool…and the great addition of the outdoor deck seating that was temporary last summer on Main Street is in the process of being installed. Downtown Louisville is THE PLACE to be (And be seen-that’s new!) this summer. I have personally eaten recently at all 3 restaurants and recommend them all. You might even need to make reservations!!! It’s happening.

New arrivals at Ju Ju Beads will surprise and delight you too. We are now the local home for a line of gifts from The Natural Life. If you ever shop at Bliss in Boulder, you will recognize the collection. My favorite thing are the beaded handlebar covers for my bike (yes indeed) and the sitting room pillow that says “let the sunshine in”. Also back for the summer are our favorite sling bags from Bali, Indonesia. All of these are fun additions to the store that complement my customers outstanding taste in beads and artful living.

It's taken me until now to come out of my winter hibernation, but you'll be glad to know I have been busy behind the scenes planning a FANTASTIC spring coming out celebration!

Back from Pasadena Bead/Design Show

Just arrived from a wild trip to California during the storm of the century to strike the coast. Managed to get from place to place with the help of friends---didn't let the downpour or the tornadoes or the hail or the earthquake from stop me from getting to the BEAD SHOW! (No wonder I moved to Colorado 17 years ago!!!)I was dying to get back and share the highlights with you all.

Sibellechic are 2 women welders from North Dakota who make forged steel pendants to adorn unusual gemstone necklaces. Ju Ju Beads Break and Bead Show Info

Greetings fellow bead fans!

Ju Ju Beads is taking a winter break from January 14-25th. This month is generally a quiet time of year, after the holidays and all, so I take a short break to recharge my creative engines and visit some of my relatives.

I guess like all 4 year olds, I have become a little wiser and lost some of my naivete but am still in awe of what has come into my life. My heart is so satisfied owning a business in the town I live in, but am at the same time faced with the reality of the struggles of keeping a small business vibrant and alive in the current climate. Like all my birthdays, I always reflect on the past year. Turning 4 is definitely cause for celebration and acknowledgement of how far Ju Ju Beads has come since it first opened, but I still have dreams for where it will go (and grow) from here.

If I was blowing candles out on my cake right now I would wish that Ju Ju Beads continues to grow as a community creative space rather than just a place of commerce. It was never my intention to just sell beads. I want beads and art to be an avenue of connecting and community building in our crazy world. Beads and intentional beading have given me the platform to get to know so many of you. I am so grateful for that. I have always had a vision that creative minds would come and shop, work and create and share at Ju Ju Beads.

Our new location has more "studio" space than ever. I hope all of you know that you are invited to work at the bead bar anytime you want. Bring your tea and your beads and create! It is a beautiful environment (with a big picture window facing Main Street, a tinkling fountain as a backdrop for your work, and tools and supplies at your disposal. Studio time at Ju Ju Beads has always been free. I personally have an enormous commitment to share my knowledge of basic beading techniques gratuitously. You never need to wait for a class to learn simple construction techniques. Hopefully you also find inspiration shopping at a unique bead store at the same time as getting to know Louisville better.

Furthermore, if you have an idea of a class or event you would like to host/teach at Ju Ju Beads in our new expanded space, talk to me! I am excited about the opportunity to expand our reach into the community and utilize this creative space in a more dynamic way in the coming year. (Don't worry, your idea doesn't need to be jewelry related necessarily--we are considering doing a multi-media collage class with handmade paper, and some creative polymer clay stuff).

Here we are already with summer just one day behind us...and the weather is helping out with some good creative/indoor time...

So, when was the last time YOU stopped by Ju Ju Beads? We are LOVING our new location, in the little red house at 836 Main Street in Old Town. We have made lots of new friends and gotten to know so many new customers, but there are so many familiar names that slash past my eyes when I send out a new blog---and I haven't seen YOU lately, I'm sad. What's new?

I just returned from the Bead Show and just finished making reservations for Tucson again, and in addition to the amazing selection of ever-changing hand-picked beads, there is a lovely assortment of other goodies. A small boutique of sorts is growing inside our little store showcasing unusual gifts for your circle of dear friends. Think beautiful scarves, decorative sewing and crafting notions, dream pillows, hand crocheted mittens and more.

The new store location finally feels like home. If you haven't stopped by because of your busy summer---make sure you put Ju Ju Beads back on your "flight plan" when you are near downtown Louisville.

The new space is so inviting and inspiring to create in. The bead bar/work area on the enclosed sun porch has probably been the busiest part of the store all summer long. Everyone, especially me, enjoys sitting on a stool and watching the street scene go by outside the large picture window while working on a project. It's a quiet, serene spot to work--come anytime with your coffee and a project idea. You'll be glad you took the time out of life to treat yourself to a little me-time.

What's been going on in your life these past few months....Our household has been busy with a teenager on the Louisville Dolphin Swim Team for the first time, practice at 6am every morning! Ugh, but she did it, and had some encouraging results.

We took a special family vacation to Kauai in July. What a spectacular spot! I have heard from several customers that they have had the good fortune to visit Kauai in the past and we have had lots of fun sharing stories. One of the most memorable experiences was swimming with the ooodles of sea turtles that hang out at the beaches on the west side near Poipu. We were tripping on them, they were everywhere!My amazing tan has already dried up in the Colorado heat, but it felt good while it lasted.

I was having creative longings while I was away, and there is not a single beadstore on that island (Ju Ju Beads II anyone???) so I resorted to making a lei out of the pikake flowers growing outside our place. A bit crafty...Couldn't find a lei making kit, so resorted to dental floss and a needle from my travel sewing kit...there must be some technique involved that I need to learn, but it was fun improvising. There is something magical about an embellishment like a lei that only lasts a day...

What did you create this summer? All kinds of great inspiration comes when we have a bit of open ended free time on our hands and traveling puts us into another realm entirely. You know I love "show and tell" so bring in your most recent creations and share them with me at the store.

Ju Ju Beads is moving!

Don't worry, it's not far, only next door, into the Little Red House at 836 Main Street (formerly Recherche Photography). It is just 10 steps from Ju Ju Beads birthplace in the Marketplace, so you can't miss it. There is even parking in the back-hooray! You'll love the new look of the store, and the extra elbow room. It's an even better place to share our creative energy.

Advanced Classes will also be held fridays and saturdays, from 3-5. Pre-registration and deposit are required at time of registration. Maximum # of students is 6.

It's our favorite time of year in Colorado--all the colors of the rainbow are coming back into our lives and it fills me with tons of creative energy. I am getting my act together to host a kid's summer jewelry camp again this summer. I am finalizing the dates but already know we will be meeting on tuesdays and thursday for a 2-day camp. Camp will not be running July 8-22 as I will be on my family vacation. Probably from 9-12 noon. Projects include origami jewelry, every popular poptop belt, beaded charm bracelet and magnetic necklace. If you may be interested, email back and let me know. Fabulous Baroque Earring Class

Come join this inspiring, advanced earring class on Tuesday, February 24th from 4-5:30 pm or Saturday February 28th, 4-530. This gorgeous design combines stringing, wire wrapping and basic needle weaving techniques to create an elegant drop earring. We will be using Vintaj brass findings (see http://www.vintaj.com/ for an exciting taste of what's to come), freshwater pearls, aquamarine, chalcedony, czech glass crystals and seed beads in a variety of colors.

Snap out of the winter doldrums and make something elegant! Choose any one of the three color combinations photographed to complement your wardrobe.

Back from Tucson Bead Show!

Whew! Just flew home this afternoon from a whirlwind trip to the Tucson Bead Show. That's my sister in law Patti, me and my mom at the famous El Charro Restaurant in the Presidio neighborhood downtown.

It was 80 degree weather, a nice change of pace from Colorado. I even got a small sunburn-hooray. The Tucson Show was everything I had imagined and more. It is actually about 30 different shows that take place all over the city of Tucson during the first 2 weeks of February each year. What an amazing selection of gorgeous stuff!!!! I have NEVER seen the variety of beads I saw in Tucson. Of course, I did not hold back, and did my part to stimulate the economy while I was there.

Now it's your turn to come feast your eyes....put Ju Ju Beads on your flight path in the near future for the best selection...there's about 50 pounds of beads to choose from (I actually weighed my suitcase when I got home-scary!)

Happy 2009 to all my fellow creative souls.

Hope the holiday season treated you all well. Christmas finally made it to Ju Ju Beads and the store had the best season ever! Thanks a million to every one of you. You have made owning my own business such a delightful miracle. Best wishes to all for a fulfilling New Year.

Just in time to treat YOURSELF to something special is a new delivery of handmade African beads from Kazuri. If you are not familiar with Kazuri, you are in for a treat. The adjacent photo showcases just a sampling of what Ju Ju Beads has to choose from. Kazuri beads are made by a women's cooperative in Nairobi, Kenya since 1975. The beads are each handcrafted from the mud from Mt. Kenya and hand glazed and fired. They have had more notoriety lately as some movie stars have been spotted wearing Kazuri custom necklaces, Brighton (of handbag fame) commissioned a special series of beads for a promotion in 2007 , and a few New York designers have used their buttons on clothing collections. Come see what the buzz is about...

Also, just to please all the glass bead artists out there, is a new delivery of special lampwork focal beads and new charms and tibetan style silver spacers.

January store hours:

I will be taking a winter break in mid-January 11-28th, but the store will be open every saturday (Thank you Ceil) from 10-4. So make a plan to come by on a saturday, have a biscuit with raspberry jam at the Huckleberry and do some winter beading.

Store will be back to usual hours the last week of January. Then in February - it's off to TUCSON for the LARGEST BEAD SHOW IN THE USA!!!! Bring your wish list to Ju Ju Beads and I'll take it with me.

Whew! Just got off the plane from San Francisco (accompanying my husband on a business trip) and the city was full of inspiration/color and CHRISTMAS!!! All the store windows were full of beautiful displays. The city streets were packed with people in town for the USC/Stanford game, and the weather was in the 70's! When does that ever happen in November?

But reality was just inside the door when I got home, and I realize this is probably going to be a challenging holiday season for all business owners, not just small ones like me. If this isn't the year we are ALL making our gifts, I don't know what year will be! I am planning of baking all my favorite recipes, packaging everything extravagently and of course added beaded elements to all the decor. If you still think beads are only for jewelry, you haven't stopped by lately. Bring your visiting relatives along, see the elaborate holiday displays in the store and enjoy the season. Together.
Sometimes a short break is all we need to feed our inspiration and verve for life! I'll rub some off on you :)

In the fall issue of Stringing, the editors (Melinda Barta, Danielle Fox, and Elizabeth Murray) all went shopping at flea markets, antique stores, and thrift stores and with some advice from jewelry designer Mysti Gulsrud, they each created a necklace or bracelet that mixed modern components and antique finds.

Recycled Jewelry is the thing. Even the New York Times had a section last weekend entitled "Recessionista" fashion and jewelry. In other words, it's cool to be frugal and recycle (finally) even for the Upper Crust. Thus:

Saw a fabulous quote the other day in an unsuspecting place:

Creativity is an unknown language we all understand.

Thought this really captures that undefinable feeling we share when we are beading, or just even looking for beads...it's a great bond we have in common. Be sure to keep spreading the good Ju Ju. Introduce a friend to beading! In fact, Ju Ju Beads used to advertise is was "changing the world one bead at a time, I guess that still is true! Thanks for being a part of that movement!

Interested in the jewelry trends for Fall? Maybe you don't know this about me (and about the origins of Ju Ju Beads), but I am a recovering clothes/fashion hound, who used to be a SLAVE to fashion in the eighties when I worked for a European fabric company in Los Angeles. (That was another life....long gone now).

Anyway, for those of us who want to look up to date without blowing the bank here are the must have's on the jewelry list (ie--to make list, asap)

-Layering; just like all the layered clothing looks for fall, jewelry is layered too. This means multiple necklace at a time, multi-strand necklaces...think long (36") then a 24" then an 18. What? How do you wear all that? Take a look

-Texture; again reminiscent of fashions for cooler weather, nubby knits etc, fall jewelry is rich with texture, whether it be suede alongside beads, different metals, hammered finishes, carved stone and bone, whatever adds more dimension. Here's a simple necklace idea that has added texture with irridescent ribbon as an amazing detail:

Ooops, pictures are up above. So much for my mad editing skills. You get the idea. Also, another more organic treatment (if you are not the disco/crystal ball type) try this other medicine wheel necklace on suede laces. Beautiful.

Surprise! Fall is in the air today--wow, that happened fast. Wasn't it just yesterday I was at the Labor Day Festival in Louisville watching live music, waiting to see if my pie won the pie contest and sweating to death???!!! I guess since I can't sit on my deck with my coffe (without a fleece on), I may as well bundle up and write the Ju Ju Newsletter.

Here's what's on my mind:

Need your feedback on a few things-my wonderful, loyal customers...
First of all-

Believe it or not, I am in the process of designing a website (hooray, finally). I am curious how many of you use the internet to find things. Do you look for businesses online rather than using the phonebook? Do you shop online for beads? Would you sign up for classes online?

Secondly, I would like to ask anyone who is interested to review Ju Ju Beads online. Ju JU Beads is listed in several different online directories-Dexonline.com,
yelp.com, etc. If you have a free moment, go to the directory that you usually refer to and rate my store. Your personal words are the best advertising I could ever wish for.

Third, I am thinking about hosting a bead swap this fall. Do you have an interest in organizing (YIKES) your unwanted beads and participating in a bead swap? Let me know. I think it would be fun--all us crazy bead girls crammed inside The Marketplace on some cozy fall evening.

It's the heat of the summer, and I am lovin' it!!!

Just got back yesterday from an amazing "staycation" in our own state. Southwestern Colorado is as beautiful as Switzerland in the summer. WOW. Two whole weeks of romping around between Ouray (my personal favorite), Telluride (my daughter's personal favorite), Mesa Verde (all of us were in awe) and Durango (my husband's personal favorite). The wildflowers were up to our necks in some parts, due to over 400" of snow down there this past winter. What a gorgeous state we live in....aaaaaaaaahhhhh.

As a result of all the beauty and splendor- I am FULL of inspiration:) It will surely spill all over onto you next time you come to Ju Ju Beads, so be prepared.

Lacy Daisy Chain Bracelet

Lauri is the resident seed bead instructor who is eager to share a new design that is sort of a modified daisy chain bracelet. This is a delicate design that encorporates both seed beads and czech glass bicones to create a lovely feminine wristlet (ooh laa laa). This is an advanced beginner class that requires patience and a love for tiny, itty bitty beads, needle and thread and delicate work.

Private Classes:

Anyone interested in learning beaded crochet or beginner peyote stitch on an individual basis, Lori Quilico is available during store hours by appointment. Cost is $25 per hour.

Sunset Magazine Article-- I keep waiting and watching for news of Ju Ju Beads in an upcoming issue of Sunset. Remember, they were here last fall photographing your favorite little bead store for an upcoming story on Louisville...if you happen to see it, you better let me know. It's Hooligan winning the Doggy Cannonball Contest last weekend in Lyons, Colorado. Congratulations Hooligan! Our family had a great time watching this silly dog contest, and it definitely put me in a great mood. I am excited for a frisky, fun filled summer. How about you?

Have you noticed how Louisville is finally thawing? The scene on Main Street is more vibrant than ever. Don't miss the Farmer's Market, every saturday from 9-2, now through October. Friday Night street fairs start June 16th with Chris Daniels and the Kings. Ju Ju Beads will not have a booth at the Street Fair (that just about killed me!) but I will be there drinking beer and dancing with the crowd.

When it's 100 degrees out, this is the only jewelry I want to put on. A simple design crafted on silk cord, with knots in between a scattering of beads, this is a favorite of mine and everyone elses. You will learn the tricks of knotting on silk cord, and how to use special findings to professionally finish your necklace.

A very popular bracelet design, full of tiny drops, about 100 of them, all bobbing along a simple bracelet base. It is multi colored and fanciful. This is a combination of stringing techniques, with needle and thread beaded fringe as the decor. Bring your glasses if you need them.

The month of May sure did sneak up on me...after all my worry that spring (and all the hibernating customers) would never come back-BANG! April was a wild ride at Ju JU Beads. The store has never hosted so many parties--Ladies Nights, Bridal Showers, Brownie Troops, Birthday Parties and FUN. I had such a good time!!!

Thank you to everyone who continues to spread the word about the little buried treasure in Louisville. I appreciate it more than I can express.

This is a tubular crochetd bracelet with a gorgeous single larger bead as the focal point/closure. It does not have a clasp, but rather rolls onto your wrist. It is also a beautiful crochet pattern to use for a necklace application. Laurie used to teach beading at a store in Florida and has recently moved into our neighborhood. She requested a very small class size as this is a seed bead/hands on instruction class. You do not need to know how to crochet. There is a bit of preparation before the 1st class, so sign up at least 2 days before.

Spreading Good Ju Ju

Throughout the month of May, Ju Ju beads is continuing to accept donations for Dress for Success. If you don't recall, my business is collecting costume jewelry to donate to the Dress for Success Closet in Boulder and Denver. Dress for Success is a nationwide nonprofit that outfits women who are heading back into the work force and off social programs. If they land the job, Dress for Success provides them with 7 days of professional outfits and accessories. When you bring in any item of costume jewelry you receive a 15% off coupon good on any purchase at Ju Ju Beads.

New Merchandise

As the business grows I am having so much fun adding new collections to the store for you to enjoy. With spring in the air and lots of gift giving ahead (end of school year, graduation, baby sitters), I have added some new lines for gift giving when we don't have time to bead-beaded serving pieces, Colorado Wildflower pendants, beaded writing pens, fun summer hats, and more. This summer, classes for kids will be held on tuesdays, from 10:30-12 noon. All classes cost $25 and include all materials. Limit 6 kids per class. Pre-registration is required.

Back by popular demand, this class will teach you all you need to know about inserting beads into chain. You will use 26 gauge sterling silver wire, semi-precious stones and delicate sterling chain to create a 16-18" necklace. Wire wrapping is not difficult, but requires patience and certain tools and equipment. 6 students maximum. Reservations required.

Window Mobile Class

With all that Colorado sunshine beaming in the window, now is the perfect time to create a beaded mobile to add some twinkle to your home. This is a great project for orphan beads and beginner beaders. We will learn the basics of mobile construction, beaded loops, composition and weight balancing. We will begin construction of your mobile and you can complete your design at home. 10 students maximum.

It's party time

Ju Ju Beads is becoming a popular place to host a party. This month we've had a bridal shower, a gathering of teachers from Boulder Valley, a Brownie Troop and two birthday parties! I'm exhausted and thrilled to have taught so many people how to make their own beautiful jewelry and gifts. Community Service Project

Got Jewelry??? Of course, we all do! Here is your opportunity to unload some of the costume jewelry you no longer wear (remember all those '80's necklaces, Monet gold etc). Ju Ju Beads is partnering with Dress for Success in a special community service project for the next 6 weeks. Dress for Success is a nationwide nonprofit organization, http://www.dressforsuccess.com/ that helps disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools so they can thrive in the workplace and their lives. They have "community closets" in Denver and Colorado Springs that outfit women for interviews, and if they secure a job-clothing and accessories for a week of work. Ju Ju Beads is gathering donations of costume jewelry to add to their collection to give to women they outfit in the Denver/Boulder area.

Third, make plans to come by and see the new featured art beads from an up and coming bead artist from Texas. Inspired by William Morris and Claude Monet paintings, they are formed in modeling clay and are GORGEOUS. Ju Ju Beads has built its reputation of unusual one-of-a-kind pieces and these are worth adding to the collection.

Fourth, a new shipment with 2008 designs has been released by the Gustav Klimt collection. Remember, these are hand painted porcelain beads inspired by this famous Renaissance Artist. Limited supplies.

Wow! It's a new year and I am full of energy and excitement. I just returned from a road trip to buy beads in California, New Mexico and Arizona--I am busy unloading and displaying all the new merchandise. Don't miss out on an opportunity to see piles of NEW inventory. I found all kinds of beautiful natural stones (lapis, amber, malachite, nephrite, heishi, blackstone, fetishes, and of course one of a kind focal pieces), silver findings and beads, great charms, new kids beads and more!

Cha Cha Ring Class

Our first class of the year is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29th from 430-6:30pm. This sassy ring is beaded all around with seed bead fringe and accents. It is a great conversation piece in addition to being a unique piece of jewelry. This is a needle and thread beading project that will absorb your attention for a while. Winter is the perfect time to get lost in a project like this. The ring base is adjustable, so bead one for yourself or a friend, it will fit everyone. Once your done, make a date with a friend to go out and show it off!

Holiday Giving

Thank you to everyone who generously bought Christmas gifts for the Louisville family Ju Ju Beads sponsored for the holidays. A wonderful family of 3 had a great Christmas morning thanks to YOU. If you didn't get to see the big pile of beautifully wrapped gifts collected in the store, you missed out. There was an even larger assortment of gifts at the Social Services Collection Center on Main Street. We are lucky to live in a town that has so many kind citizens who are willing to share. I'm sure this will become a Christmas tradition.

The future of our building--Marketplace Shops

There has been lots of news in the local paper about our building being torn down....it is not going to happen for at least 2 years. Ju Ju Beads is not going anywhere. I plan on being here for a long time. After that, maybe it will be an opportunity to EXPAND and have more classroom/work space!!!

I am so excited to be able to introduce my customers to all these new goodies--you won't be disappointed!

Spreading Good Ju Ju

Ju Ju Beads and its customers are sponsoring a Louisville family through Boulder County Social Services for the holidays as our community service beading project for November/December.

Since opening my store, I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of every one of you...so I decided to reach out a little further into the community to spread our kindness. The family we are sponsoring is a single parent family with 2 children. Here's how our sponsorship works: There is a list of needs/gift items at my store for each family member. Each person can list up to 4 items with a total cash value of up to $75. You can either shop for a specific item on the recipient's list in your budget, or you can write a check to Family to Family and leave it for collection at Ju Ju Beads. We will be collecting donations for our family until December 15th. Please stop by the store, or call (666-9500) to get details on what is on the family's list. Each item needs to be gift wrapped and will be collected under the Ju Ju Beads gift tree at the store.

Craft your own dichroic glass pendant-cut your own glass, assemble your design and fire it in the kiln. Every class has created AMAZING pendants and earrings!

HAPPENINGS DOWNTOWN

Have you heard? A new restaurant is opening next door to Ju Ju Beads (in the old Pasquini's location)-The Empire. Rumour has it the owners are affiliated with Jax's Fish House, and Dave Query! An award winning chef is coming to cook for all of us. Hooray, I can hardly wait to sit down and enjoy an excellent meal. Opening in early December.

VieVie Luxe is a new upscale ladies boutique that is open on Main Street. It is owner by a mother/daughter team and is located across Main from The Yoga Studio. They carry beautiful clothing and accessories. Check it out.

Cafe de Paris is the new cafe located in where the Sun Rose Cafe used to be. Owner Bryn (a fellow beader) and her husband has redesigned the space and added a lovely European menu of goodies to eat for breakfast and lunch. It is a serene spot to meet a friend and relax.

Skating Rink opens November 17th.
